Lou Read Chair

Five years ago, famed designers Philippe Starck and Eugeni Quitllet created a new take on the traditional English armchair for the Royal Monceau Hotel in Paris. Inspired by the late architect/designer Carlo Mollino and Danish design of the 1950s, the resultant chair was a groundbreaker with its sinuous form, superior comfort and flawless ergonomics. A Lou Read Armchair now resides in each bedroom at the Royal Monceau - garnering its name from a chance meeting between Philippe Starck and musician Lou Reed in the very same hotel in the mid 1990s. Today, this covetable armchair is newly available to the public and Switch Modern is thrilled to add it to our collection. We invite you to get to know Lou Read a little better through the video below which documents the complex handcrafted process involved in bringing it to life.
